Merry weekend and all things Christmas! #9

December 14, 2017

Merry Christmas!

A bit of a bumper wrap-up Christmas post from me this weekend. I'm aiming to take some time off over Christmas to relax and recharge.

It's been mad recently but in a good way! Here is what I've been up to over the last few Christmassy weeks...

Wreath making workshop

Will become an annual tradition to throw a Christmas wreath making workshop with my Momma.

This was our first year and it was wonderful. This year I went for a pine, eucalyptus, wax flowers, snow berries, pheasant feathers, lotus flower and whole dried oranges tied with a copper ribbon.

Full post on my Christmas Workshop here. I hope to host a couple of days of the School of Christmas next year with lots of Christmas arts and crafts, not just wreath making, keep an eye on my workshops page if you'd be interested in hearing more.

Winter walks

Snow, it’s been wonderful to have cold frosty mornings and layers of snow.

Last night I went with my family to watch the Nutcracker ballet. It was fantastic! I’ve been before when I was young but forgot how wonderful it is.

We came out of the theatre to a surprising 2 inches of snow!  Such a lovely Christmassy feeling walking back to the car through town in the snow! You can see more winter wonderland photos here

Soaking up all the magic of Christmas

I love December so much. It’s the month Rob and I met, moved in to our house, got married and of course it’s Christmas!

I’m hoping Rob will see the light and put some fairy lights outside our house this year (first time ever). The worst of it is he is an Electrician who installs lights for a living but I never get any! Rob sort it out!

Next week I break up from work so plan on more winter walks and watching Christmas films, my favourites are Home Alone, Elf and Love Actually, not forgetting the Christmas Vicar of Dibley, so so good.

I might even make a gingerbread house and couple more batches of mince pies. Mmmmm.

I use Mary Berry's Christmas Mince Pie recipe after trialing, Delia's, Jamie Oliver's, Lorraine Pascal and Nigel Slaters. Mary's are the best hands down.

Here is her recipe {Taken from BBC Food, full recipe here

For the pastry:

  • 175g/6oz plain flour

  • 75g/2½oz cold butter, cubed

  • 25g/1oz icing sugar, plus extra for dusting

  • 1 large orange, grated zest only

  • 1 free-range egg, beaten

For the filling:

  • 250g/9oz good-quality ready-made mincemeat

  • 100g/3½oz ready-to-eat dried apricots, finely chopped (do this in a food processor if you're short on time)

  • 125g/4oz uncoloured marzipan, grated

Christmas food, including treats for Toby Jug

There's nothing nicer than tucking into some fireside treats with all the family.

It's really important be be careful what you give your dog their tummy's are so sensitive even thou they might woff their food down, no one wants to be in hospital over Christmas- even the dog.

Vets Now have some advice if the worst does happen, including a toxicology calendar if you are worried should your dog steal granny's box of after eight mints.

{Big thank you to Vets Now for Toby's Christmas hamper}

Wrapping

I love Christmas shopping – online only! I cannot be doing anymore with the hassle of going into Birmingham and the snowy weather hasn’t helped. I’d much rather get what I need online (as early as possible) and get wrapped up.

I also adore wrapping and making my gifts look really special. I’ve got a bit more to do but most of it is done and under the tree. Yay!

Date day in London

I do love traditions and this year Rob and I will carry on our annual Christmas date trip to London.

We’re going to go to Somerset house to watch the ice skating and have mulled wine and a trip to Chelsea and Covent Garden. Looks like it’s going to be a cold, crisp wintery weekend!

I've got my works Christmas party, a neighbours Christmas do and catch up with friends and family between now and the big day.

I’ll hope to come back on here before Christmas but if not then Merry Merry Christmas!

What are you up to on the last weekend before Christmas? Have a lovely weekend.

Blunty xx
