Secrets of an interiors upcycler...

January 5, 2018

Over the last few years I have really got into upcycling and producing things that look fab on a budget in a big way.

I get asked all the time on Instagram where items are from in our home, so I thought i'd share with you my secret for buying on a budget and where I get most of my stuff from.

If in 2018 your aim is to update your home on a shoestring, feel a bit creative and environmentally smug, then please read on...

Let me introduce you to a tool that will change your buying habits forever bitkit.

Bitkit is a tool that works alongside eBay as a bit of a search widget, allowing you to search for spelling mistakes, local collection items, daily deals, unwanted gifts or prizes, like new, buy it now and auctions that are ending in the middle of the night.

Last year I sourced these great items using this tool;

Makeover: My Instaworthy bathroom skink -  swoon...(Full post here

Total cost: £20 for chest of drawers

Total time taken to upcycle: 8 hours including painting time

Full bathroom renovation post here.

Makeover: Upholstered ottoman footstool (Full post here)

Total cost: 1p for table

Total time taken: 7 hours

 From this...

 to this...

I have to say I'm pretty chuffed with how both of these projects turned out.

I had an absolute ball doing these. It wasn't a chore at all, I felt totally self satisfied at the end of it.

Transforming something from sad to super is so worthwhile and its a great feeling giving a new lease of line to something that has lost it's oomph.

You can see the rest of my makeover projects here. I have brought a beautiful old wooden crate from a ship recently using Bidkit, hope to share what I do with it with you soon!

Do you have any plans to get upcyling this year? What project will you be working on?

Blunty xx
