Let's be honest, if there's one thing that we can all agree on about modern life, it's that it can be pretty darn stressful a lot of the time. For me, balancing a career, a home and a marriage can be quite difficult and we don't even have any children- yet!
Most of us are living in a near constant state of stress and anxiety simply because there is always so much going on in our lives.
From work to a social life to family to your finances to relationships, there are so many aspects to your life that it can often feel impossible to fit it all in.
Sadly, trying to keep going at full pelt all of the time is just going to end up making life incredibly difficult for yourself and for everyone else around you. With that in mind, here are some things that you can do to finally learn how to relax.
Take time for yourself
There's a strange attitude that many of us have that there is always something wrong with making any selfish decision.
As though the only way to live your life correctly or to be a good person is to live every moment for other people with never a thought to yourself. However, the truth is that there are few things more important than being able to take some time for yourself.
Just sit down with some loose leaf tea, some nice music, and a book you've been meaning to read and forget about the world for a while. Remember, it's okay to be a little bit selfish every once in a while.
Know your stress triggers
There is always going to be stress in your life, that's something pretty much all of us have in common. However, the things that actually bring about those levels of stress are going to be pretty different from person to person. That's why it's so important to know what it is that actually triggers those feelings in you. By understanding what those triggers are, you're able to take the first step towards actually dealing with them.
Learn to say no
Doing things for others is great. There is nothing wrong with wanting to help the people around you.
However, when you manage to get roped into helping so many different people in so many different ways that you barely have any time to think, you're going to end up in trouble. It's okay to say no sometimes. Whether it's to a friend or even to your boss, you don't owe anyone 100% of your time. Trying to do that is just going to leave you feeling burnt out.l
Of course, trying to relax can often feel like an oxymoron. After all, if you're trying to force yourself to feel calm and relaxed, there's a good chance that you're going to end up feeling even more stressed than you were before. The key is to try and find things in your life that allow you to relax so that you can at least take a little bit of time to forget about all of the pressure that rests on so many of our shoulders in the modern era.
What do you do to relax?
